Perhaps the most difficult decision a family or caregiver can make is to admit they need help to cope with a loved one's Alzheimer's disease or memory impairment.  At Belle Reve Care Center, we utilize a simple but effective list of questions to help families determine if the progression of the disease in a loved one is causing hardship to the family unit, or if a crisis is looming.  We hope these questions will help to clarify your situation.

Does your loved one...

Remember the day, date, month, season, year?

Know his or her home address, telephone number?

Recall how to dress, bathe, eat?  Perform personal hygiene?

Know how to get home after a walk?

Know how to answer the telephone and take a message?

Remember something that happened yesterday, or an appointment scheduled for tomorrow?

Seem confused, apathetic, forgetful, angry, tearful, or have outbursts?

Forget to wash the dishes, turn off the stove, or leave food on the counter instead of putting it into the refrigerator?

Leave you uneasy or afraid to stay away for a week or a day because you just can't be certain everything will be okay?

Each family has their own experiences, and each person suffering from Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, or memory impairment has some unique characteristics or concerns, but almost every family lives with fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. Caregiver burnout is another typical occurrence.  Please call us if you need help.
